Therefore, wildlife preservation and management (including aquatic and riparian) and the preservation of all native plants, grasses, trees, and other vegetation.
Conservation Easement
The Conservation Easement’s purpose is to assure that the Property will be retained in perpetuity in its predominant natural, scenic, historic, agricultural and open space condition (including aquatic and riparian), and to prevent any use of the Property that will significantly impair or interfere with the conservation values of the Property, including wildlife preservation and management, and the preservation of all native plants, grasses, trees and other vegetation.
The conservation values of the Property to be preserved through the easement are (1) The undisturbed natural condition of the Property, (2) The natural, scenic, open space, ecological, and educational values; and, (3) The significant habitat for wildlife and plants on the Property.
The 5H Ranch and the surrounding area support a variety of wildlife, and placement of this ranch in a conservation easement will result in an improvement in the quality of habitat available for wildlife, resulting in more diversity and attraction of migratory species moving through the area.
We partner with Green Spaces Alliance. Their mission is to sustain the natural environment and enhance urban spaces through land conservation, community engagement, and education.
Green Spaces Alliance was formed in 1998 as an urban land trust to serve the citizens of San Antonio and Bexar County. Our work is about people, nature, and connections to the land. They are committed to San Antonio and the surrounding region, we protect undeveloped land and water resources, nurture and support community gardens, and help students and youth engage with nature through creative arts.
GSA engages and empowers the community by connecting people to one another and to nature.
To date, Green Spaces Alliance has:
- Protected over 133,000 acres of land over the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone
- Safeguarded 458 additional acres of private property and 123 acres of donated land
- Fostered over 40 community gardens across San Antonio, and
- Educated over 3,700 students on the importance and beauty of nature with our Picture Your World Youth Photography Program.
